First Grade students are connected to the worldwide events!

World Cup is coming and 1st grade A students are really excited about it. They had a very good time when we went to Sport Court at Kampus School to take penalty kicks. There were two team (boys and girls) and they took turns as the player taking the penalty kick and the defending goalkeeper.

Before starting our "duel" we discussed some laws of the penalty kick and agreed that the ball must have been placed on the penalty mark and the goalkeeper must have remained on his goal line, facing the kicker, between the goalposts until the ball have been kicked. It was nice to see how involved they got with the game and how important the rules were for them. They worked hard to make sure they were following them and to remind someone who had forgotten them. The final score was 1x1.

This moment was a great opportunity for the kids develop some crucial team work skills such as organize themselves without close supervision, take other's opinion on consideration, wait for their turn and respect others.

Fist grade B has also been connected to what happens around the world! What has been more important than the environment preservation? To bring the importance of the topic up we started our works through a research about the work developed by Greenpeace that counted a lot with the families participation. Thank you all!

The kids used the knowledge they got from the show and tell activity based on the researches and set a lot of relations between what is wrong and what needs to be done to help our planet.

Several problems and solutions were mentioned, not only the problems like the ones with the Indians in Belo Monte, but also the whales murder and so on.

To complete the sequence of activities about the theme, the kids made charts with awareness messages concerning the preservation of the planet. They also went on a parade visiting every class to show and explain their ideas.

It was a very enriching opportunity for our kids!
